NEWSAFFORD Inaugurates the Uganda Health Marketing Group
Founded in October 2006, UHMG began implementing activities in April 2007 and has since operated under the guidance and supervision of the AFFORD Technical Advisory Group (TAG), led by the Chief of Party with support from CCP and the other AFFORD partners. “Since the very beginning, AFFORD has been committed to founding a local, sustainable NGO able to carry on our work at the end of the project. All AFFORD consortium partners have come together to nurture and build the technical, strategic, programmatic, marketing, communication, management, financial, and administrative and capacity of UHMG”, reiterated the AFFORD Chief of Party, Mr. Kojjo Lokko. The USAID Mission Director Ms. Ellis Margot praised the creation of UHMG at the beginning of AFFORD as one of USAID’s most innovative initiatives in Uganda: “International and local experts have come together to build an independent NGO, run completely by Ugandans, who will ensure its sustainability and continuity for many years to come”. The Managing Director of the newly inaugurated UHMG, Dr. Godfrey Magumba, expressed gratitude to all of the AFFORD partners for the technical assistance and dedication to making UHMG what it is: “On behalf of UHMG, today UHMG pledges not only to carry out the work of AFFORD, but to soar to new heights in our mission to improve the quality of life of Ugandans”. While inaugurating UHMG, the Minister commended the work done by AFFORD and UHMG in supporting the Government programs through the Ministry of Health: “AFFORD and UHMG have helped complement the products and services offered by the Government of Uganda through their work with the private health sector in important ways. UHMG has also been a large supporter of our revitalization of family planning through the promotion of small, manageable families. They have made available a range of affordable family planning products, including Pilplan, Injectaplan, and Moon Beads – with even more to come soon”. The Minister pledged the Ministry’s continued support to UHMG.
