PROGRAMSHIV/AIDS | Malaria | Family Planning | Child Health | Good Life Campaign | Everyday Health Matters HIV/AIDSUHMG supports and promotes HIV initiatives to increase risk perception, self-efficacy and preventive behaviors among communities, with a particular focus on men and women of reproductive age, discordant couples and most at risk populations. Communication activities include client and service related IEC materials, rebroadcast of The Good Life Show, Under the Mango Tree, radio spots and community mobilization programs. UHMG targets the most at risk populations for HIV infection including commercial sex workers (CSWs) and their clients, uniformed personnel, people living in fishing communities and long distance truck drivers. UHMG works closely with organizations related to each group to scale up prevention services within each population. The palliative care component to UHMG's HIV/AIDS program works to strengthen the technical capacity of private health care providers (PHP) and to mobilize PHLA to access quality products and services through PHP outlets. MalariaUHMG's malaria program focuses on prevention and treatment. UHMG distributes and promotes the use of long lasting insecticide nets (LLINs) to prevent malaria, especially by pregnant women and children under five. LLINs are distributed through antenatal clinics, the Good Life Campaign, and an NGO LLIN facility. UHMG also strives to improve case management of malaria and increase the use of artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) through partnerships with the private sector. UHMG's malaria communication and promotion activities include the distribution of IEC materials, rebroadcast of the Good Life Show, radio spots, Under the Mango Tree and community mobilization programs. Family PlanningUHMG's family planning program aims to revitalize the use of family planning in order to promote smaller, healthier and more prosperous families. UHMG's integrated family planning campaign strives to encourage increased use of hormonal contraceptives by addressing myths, rumors and fears surrounding hormonal family planning methods and promoting consumer trust in the modern methods. UHMG also works to promote male involvement in family planning by encouraging couple communication about family planning. Family planning messages are delivered through a radio talk show, community mobilization, the Good Life Show, Under the Mango Tree, and Everyday Health Matters. Child HealthUHMG's child health program focuses on management of diarrhea, treatment of fever, malaria prevention and safe water and sanitation. The child health program includes distribution of long lasting insecticide nets (LLIN) and training for community members on the use of all relevant UHMG products as well as Artemisinin-Combination Therapy (ACT), a home based treatment for the management of malaria. The child health program is an integral part of the Good Life Campaign, Under the Mango Tree and Everyday Health Matters. Good Life CampaignThe Good Life Campaign was launched in 2006 by UHMG and our consortium partners as our overarching communication platform. The campaign promotes simple things community members can do each day to keep healthy and save some money. The Good Life Campaign reaches community members through health communication and UHMG products and services. The Good Life Campaign recently completed filming 24 episodes of the Good Life Gameshow, an entertainment education quiz show, which uses multimedia approach broadcasting through television, radio and community activation. Prizes are given to participants throughout the show, culminating in the grand prize giveaway of a Toyota Hilux truck, donated by Toyota Uganda and IAA Healthcare. The gameshow will be rebroadcast through all three mediums over the next year. Everyday Health MattersEveryday Health Matters is a free, medium literacy newsletter produced quarterly by UHMG with Straight Talk Foundation under the Good Life Campaign. The newsletter is published in several languages to increase the number of communities reached. Everyday Health Matters will cover all UHMG health topics including HIV/AIDS, malaria, child health, family planning and information about related UHMG health products. It acts as a support material under the Good Life Campaign, free net distribution activities with Malaria No More and PMI, and at AFFORD/UHMG events. |
